NAMs & the 3Rs

Connected science.
Responsible animal use.

Start with the scientific question. Connect human iPSC models, cell-based assays and appropriate animal studies. We are working to integrate new approach methodologies (NAMs) to replace or reduce animal use where scientifically appropriate.

Use the right model for the question.

At MuriPhys, connected science means choosing and combining methods around the evidence your program needs. Our human iPSC-derived models, cell-culture work and molecular and functional assays provide a foundation for non-animal research and for studies that connect cell-based findings with animal-model evidence.

We are working to integrate NAMs into that planning. We ask which questions can be answered without animals, what existing evidence can be used, and where an animal model adds necessary information. Each method has a defined purpose, controls and limitations.

Connect the evidence across methods.

Cell-based studies can explore disease mechanisms, compare responses and help prioritize the next experiment. Where animal work is justified, we plan the model, study size, delivery, functional assessments and sample analysis together, with attention to scientific rigor and animal welfare.

Our current capabilities include human iPSC models and cell culture, laboratory assays and in vivo and in-life research. Model readiness, method performance and the work needed for the intended use are agreed for each project.

Our organizational commitment

We adhere to the three Rs.

Replacement, Reduction and Refinement guide MuriPhys’s animal research, from study design through care, execution and reporting.

01

Replacement

Assess whether a suitable non-animal method can answer the scientific question. Consider human cell models and other appropriate alternatives before deciding that animal work is needed.

02

Reduction

Design studies to obtain robust, reproducible evidence with justified animal numbers. Use relevant existing data and coordinate measurements to avoid unnecessary duplication while maintaining scientific rigor.

03

Refinement

Refine housing, handling, care and procedures to minimize pain and distress. Plan monitoring, veterinary support and appropriate welfare endpoints alongside the scientific work.

Plan the science together

A practical path
for your program.

Bring the research question, the evidence you have and the next decision you need to make.

We will discuss suitable cell models and NAMs, the role of any animal work, the controls and readouts, and the resources needed to connect them. For an evolving method, define readiness work before routine study execution.

Build this approach into focused experiments, preliminary studies or continuing development programs. Our goal is useful, scientifically grounded evidence with thoughtful use of animals and resources.
